History & Heritage
Custard apple, commonly known as monkey fruit, is a subtropical land fruit. In Sanskrit, custard apple is called as 'Sitaphal,' where ‘sheet’ means cold and *phal" denotes fruit. Custard apple has a cooling impact on the human body, and too much of it can produce cold, thus the rule is 'sitaphal'. 'Annona divers folia Saff.' is its botanical name. The custard apple belongs to the plant kingdom's 'Annonaceae' family. The Portuguese brought the custard apple to India in the sixteenth century. This subtropical fruit was said to grow well on the Deccan plateau
